Christmas Market

The Budapest Christmas Market transforms Vörösmarty Square into a Christmas wonderland. A giant Advent calendar in the square is displayed for all attendees to see, with a window opening to reveal each new day between the 1st and 23rd. Guests can shop with over 100 vendors offering unique Christmas-themed arts and crafts for sale, while live music fills the air.

Providing culture buffs with a profusion of cultural delights to unearth on the River Danube, Budapest boasts a rich heritage that is displayed through its majestic architecture, historical landmarks and world-class historical attractions – showcasing an irresistible blend of old and new.

Vörösmarty Square and St Stephen’s Square are around 10 minutes’ walk apart in the city centre. The Vörösmarty Square market features over 100 wooden stalls, while the St Stephen’s Square market stands in the shadow of St Stephen’s Basilica. Stroll around the handicraft shops, try some chimney cake (kurtoskalács) with mulled wine and listen to the Christmas carols. You can also attend the light show that is projected on to the basilica’s facade every half an hour, or try ice skating at St Stephen’s Square.

Take a river cruise on the Danube to admire stunning views of Buda Castle, the Houses of Parliament and Margaret Island. You’ll also take a hop-on, hop-off bus tour of the city — there’s a bus stop close to the hotel at Keleti Metro station. You can see sights such as the Castle District, the Jewish Quarter, Freedom Square and the Hungarian State Opera House.
