It was named after the famous sculpture of a bronze Greek athlete, which laid on the bottom sea for thousands of years until it was discovered in the immediate vicinity of Lošinj in 1996. After the great engagement of the local community, the Museum of Apoksiomen with the statue as it's only exhibit, was founded in Mali Lošinj.
